Introduction

 Welcome to my home on the web. I had an introduction but wanted to make some changes. Im currently in the process of making drastic changes to my layout. 

 The space for the layout is a 17 foot by 24 foot room with an extension of 8 feet by 18 feet. The layout is point to point with staging. 

  My original creation was the Green Mountain and Berkshire railroad. It was composed of the old New Haven branch from Danbury Connecticut to Pittsfield Massachusetts and the branch from Pittsfield to North Adams Massachusetts. From there it was trackage rights to Petersburg Junction New York and running the old “Corkscrew “ line from Petersburg to Bennington Vermont. 

  I’ve got locomotives painted and lettered for the GM&B and have been happy with it. I have JMRI set up with the railroads information but everything got to be too much work for just me to enjoy casual operations. 

  I have decided to backdate to the early 70’s and have removed several industries. Less is more sometimes. Im also shrinking my freelance idea. While I still have the Green Mountain and Berkshire in play, I’ve created a very small railroad called the Bennington Terminal Railroad. It works between Bennington and Petersburg Junction. I am enjoying the smaller footprint and laid back operations. The GM&B will have trackage rights to be able to interchange with the Vermont Railway, keeping my original creation alive. 

 Things are bound to change as I constantly fine tune my ideas and narrow my focus on what I want.

Pool power is common as this train tends to be a joint venture. This spot is popular with train watchers, it’s just south of Bee Hive crossing.

Motive Power

 As I backdate the layout I am choosing an RS-1, two RS-3’s and a lone F-7 for the work on the Bennington Terminal side. The Green Mountain and Berkshire train usually gets a Geep and sometimes a GP-35.   Once I get my Bennington Terminal locomotives decaled I’ll post those pictures. For now here’s a few shots of my GM&B power.

The Oddball Car

     I received this car with a lot of about 15 or so and just put it in a drawer thinking it was some goofy railcar from a train set all shiny and bright to capture a kid’s attention.   One day I got curious about it and looked into it. It was the rendition of a rather curious concept. It was a boxcar with roll up doors all down the sides allowing it to become a flat car in a sense. The prototypes were built in the 60’s so the car would fit perfectly in my 70’s/early 80’s era . While watching train videos of New England railroads from the 70’s lo and behold there went one of these cars in a train. That set the wheels in motion!    Just a simple wash and a little weathering it changed from a bright toylike model into a dingy railcar. Metal wheels and Kadee couplers mounted on fabricated mounts and it’s ready for revenue service. Don’t overlook items that have the potential to become unique models.
